One day in your hands. I wrote tomorrow on a page and filled the margins too. The list grew longer than the day. There was always more to do. The morning hadn't asked a thing. I'd answered it with fear. Jesus, help me lift my eyes and notice what is here. I read your words about tomorrow and let the pencil rest. One day in your hands, my feet upon the ground. Teach me how to live this hour before the next comes round. I'll do the work that's mine to do, then leave tomorrow here with you. One day in your hands. Let that be enough. I'm learning I can love someone and let their answer stand. I cannot hold another heart by tightening my hands. Some evenings still bring old regrets. Some prayers are only breath. I don't have to hide that part to take another step. Some days the bravest thing I do is let somebody help. One day in your hands, my feet upon the ground. Teach me how to live this hour before the next comes round. I'll do the work that's mine to do, then leave tomorrow here with you. One day in your hands. Let that be enough. If the same fear comes tomorrow, help me meet it when it's here. Let me call someone who loves me. Let me tell them what I fear. Some days a small step takes all day. Still, I can take that step with you. One day in your hands, my feet upon the ground. Teach me how to live this hour before the next comes round. I'll do the work that's mine to do, then leave tomorrow here with you. One day in your hands. This day can be enough. I turn the paper face down. The room is warm and still. Tomorrow hasn't gone away. Tonight, I let it wait.
