Unconditional Surrender

ULYSSES S. GRANT: Yo, I'm Grant from the North, came to end this fight, Led the Union Army with all of my might, Started from the bottom, worked my way up high, While you fought for slavery, I fought for what's right! I took Vicksburg down, split the South in two, Surrounded your forces, there's nothing you could do, They called me "Unconditional Surrender" for a reason, Fighting against slavery ain't never been treason! Quote: "I have never advocated war except as a means of peace." Meaning: Grant believed fighting in the Civil War was necessary to bring lasting peace to the nation by ending slavery and preserving the Union. ROBERT E. LEE: Hold up there, Grant, let me state my case, I'm a tactical genius, you can't match my pace, Won at Bull Run, Fredericksburg too, With fewer soldiers, I still outmaneuvered you! I'm a gentleman soldier, fought with honor and pride, Though the cause was complicated, I stayed by my side, Military strategy? I wrote the whole book, One glance at the battlefield, that's all it took! Quote: "Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more, you should never wish to do less." Meaning: Lee believed in always giving your best effort and fulfilling your responsibilities completely, no matter how difficult the situation. ULYSSES S. GRANT: Your tactics were good, but my will was stronger, I could take the losses and fight even longer, While you defended Richmond, I pressed ahead, Until your whole army was ready to fled! At Appomattox, you knew you were beat, Surrendered with honor, accepting defeat, I gave you respect when the war finally ended, 'Cause that's how a nation gets properly mended! ROBERT E. LEE: You're right about that, Grant, I'll give you your due, When I surrendered, you showed honor too, You let my men keep their horses and pride, Helped heal the nation when the fighting died! Though we fought on different sides of this war, We both loved America, that's what we fought for, History will judge us for the choices we made, But respect between soldiers will never fade! BOTH TOGETHER: The Civil War tested our nation's soul, But in the end, we became one and whole!
