sun spills pale across condos—sprawling, a splash of bright-tiled peach, pink (some angled flutter of not-quite-wings)

gold spasms slow, spills warm like honey through streets ripened

i lift my gaze—eyes like crystal, cold
(faint hum, forgotten tunes playing at edges of what once was mind)

(this building, these ragged teeth of steel,
where i ripped open parts of me and called it skin)

black scaffolds rise, unblinking grids
crawl half-alive through the scar's breath,
spilling glass spools

(blue thins to grey above our hands—)

or hums electric-lighted filaments,
my heart burns in glass-bits wired

glass spools scatter light—a winding thread
one piece still whole, still casting

(do leaves fall brittle, skeletoned from the bone of old trees, scatter like this?)

fingers graze the warm curve still (round, a small breast, brown-smooth, like the fragments sand-dusted, forgotten)

shimmering glass, lattice soft—dissolves
bone shows through, overgrown,

(we’re growing backwards, slow
     to shell, to bone)

under dew, burning-small like
    tears (each cavity flowers
          in the lattice

bursts—a quiet shout
of blossom)

black scaffolds rise, unblinking grids
crawl half-alive
black scaffolds rise, unblinking grids
crawl half-alive
black scaffolds rise, unblinking grids
crawl half-alive
black scaffolds rise, black scaffolds rise

black scaffolds rise
