From First Breath to Final Call
Life starts small in a quiet room light, First breath taken on a long, long night. Tiny hands reach up to the sky, Don’t know how… don’t know why. Learn to crawl on shaky knees, Then we’re walkin’ through the living room breeze. Then we’re runnin’ like we’ve always known, Like the whole wide world’s our own. Words come out only mama understands, Little sounds in baby hands. Then sentences brave and free, Truth as pure as it can be. Oh we grow… we grow… From innocent hearts to the seeds we sow. Laughin’, hidin’, chasin’ dreams, Life ain’t always what it seems. Every step, every fall, Leads us down that winding hall. From first breath to standin’ tall… We’re headed for that final call. Grade school doors swing open wide, Butterflies we try to hide. Spread our wings, test our mind, Learn what’s gentle, learn what’s unkind. High school halls and rebel pride, Think we’ve got the world inside. Mama’s rules feel out of date, Daddy’s warnings sound like fate. But times ain’t changed, no they haven’t at all, It’s just our strength growin’ tall. We graduate, step in the tide, No more guardrails left to guide. Oh we grow… we grow… Out in waters deep and cold. Some chase books, some chase pay, Some rock babies every day. Every choice, big or small, Echoes down that hallway call. From first breath to standin’ tall… We’re headed for that final call. Then one day you’re holdin’ your own, Prayin’ over seeds you’ve sown. Now you feel what your folks once knew, Fear and love cut straight through you. Bumps and bruises fade away, Hospitals take their place someday. Doctors’ rooms and silent prayers, Counting heartbeats, counting years. Friends head home one by one, Setting slow with the settin’ sun. But we stand strong, lend a hand, Do the best that we can. Oh we grow… we grow… Through the highs and through the lows. Life’s a blur of yes and no, Fast as any river flows. Every laugh, every fall, Every rise after it all. From first breath to curtain call… We’re ready for that final call. Yeah I’ve walked… through it all, And I’m ready for that final call.
