He hoists his sails and sails his boat Deeply into the night, Giving the Wind a dull white coat To keep him out of sight. The strong wild wind no longer free Blows up his poisoned gift, And all that noise awakes the Sea Who makes the boat up lift. Why has he gone and where is he now ? Fighting highwaters for fleeing a fire ! His burning home must be no more by now… And now he's got again to fight ! Water and Sky now melt in one Laughing so furiously At this poor boat, and this poor man Who refuses to flee. Neither high waves nor striking blasts Will get him going back; Each rolling surge makes him hold fast And plundge into the night. Why has he gone and where is he now ? Fighting highwaters for fleeing a fire ! His burning home must be no more by now… And now he's got again to fight ! Fleeing the fiery shores of hate On which his beloved died, He swears he will thwart such a fate And wipes his eyes with pride. 'Hideous men, hideous dogs To whom fresh flesh is fine, Why has he gone and where is he now ? Fighting highwaters for fleeing a fire ! His burning home must be no more by now… And now he's got again to fight !
