I saw you laughing by the shoreline fire Boots in the sand, eyes shining brighter than the wire lights You handed me a cup of midnight coffee Said, “Stay awhile, the stars get better late at night” We didn’t know it then… But everything was about to begin Kayaks resting on a silver lake Lanterns dancing in the breeze You told stories like a mountain stream Running wild and free Your map was folded in your back pocket Full of places yet to go You said, “I’d love some company someday” I smiled and said, “I know.” One step turned to miles Miles turned to years Every trail erased our fears We found forever in the wild unknown Two hearts beating like a trail back home From sunrise hikes to midnight drives Every road led you to mine Through every storm and summer sky We kept our fire burning bright From first hello to “I do” Every path kept leading back to you Backpacks filled with hopes and rain Sleeping under meteor showers Dancing in the headlights after concerts Counting highway hours National parks and festival lights Postcards from every town Every laugh, every late night talk Felt like roots growing down Campfire sparks in your hair Every moment said “we’re there” Love was written everywhere We found forever in the wild unknown Two hearts beating like a trail back home From sunrise hikes to midnight drives Every road led you to mine Through every storm and summer sky We kept our fire burning bright From first hello to “I do” Every path kept leading back to you Now the lake reflects the moon tonight Family gathered, candles glowing white Your hand in mine, promises in our eyes Every adventure brought us to this life Under the sky where we first met We make the promise we won’t forget We found forever in the wild unknown Two hearts beating like a trail back home From sunrise hikes to midnight drives Every road led you to mine Through every storm and summer sky We kept our fire burning bright From first hello to “I do” Every path kept leading back to you Moonlight dancing on the lake… Your name forever in my heart… Tonight our journey starts.
