After the Last Train [STTZ ▪ Challenge Wall R4]

[Intro] Fluorescent tubes keep burning for nobody but me. [Verse 1] One-seventeen above the stairs, the board has stopped changing. Blue steel columns split the dark, their rivets cold and waiting. A yellow strip runs by my shoes, straight toward the tunnel track. The last train carried two red lights off. I watched them shrink into the black. [Pre-Chorus] You said, “Stay there. I’ll come down.” So I stayed past every sound. Now even the cleaners have gone, and still I keep my coat on. [Chorus] After the last train, the platform keeps its lights. White lines on the polished floor, black tunnel to my left, all night. After the last train, there’s nowhere left to go— except the place I’ve been avoiding, the one I already know. [Verse 2] White ceiling lights run down the line, their reflections cross the floor. Blue steel columns frame the platform; there’s no one by the doors. I sit bent forward on the bench, my hands held close and still. Beyond the yellow platform edge, the tracks fade into black. [Instrumental Transition] [Bridge] White lights stretch above the track, the platform stays empty and still. I sit beneath the steel-blue columns, hands together, head bent low. I thought I was waiting for you. That was easier to believe. Truth is, I was waiting for the part of me that could finally get up and leave. [Final Chorus] After the last train, the platform keeps its lights. White lines on the polished floor, but they don’t lead me back tonight. After the last train, I let the silence stay. You’re not coming through that tunnel. I stand. I turn. I walk away. [Outro] The lights keep burning for nobody I know.
