Evergreen (ft. Viriss)
[Intro] [soft room ambience, old upright bar piano repeating one slow three-note motif, audible hammer noise and wooden resonance, distant modular synth drone slowly breathing beneath, tape hiss, silence between every phrase] [Spoken voice, intimate, almost whispered, never rushed] The trees have always known a slower way to speak. Not with blossoms— with staying. ... [Long piano decay] A forest hardly notices another trunk, another shade, another pair of roots. ... [One distant handpan note] But one tree on an empty plain becomes a destination. A compass. A place to believe the wind has not won. ... [Modular synth slowly opens, almost imperceptibly] Perhaps love is like that. Not measured where it is plentiful— but where it is needed most. ... [Bar piano repeats slightly higher] I spent years thinking I should bloom. Bright enough to deserve being seen. Instead, I learned to remain. ... [Very long silence] Winter has a way of asking honest questions. What lives after beauty has gone? What stays when applause has fallen silent? ... [One soft modular swell] The evergreen answers without speaking. Still here. Alltaf. Always. ... [Piano motif continues] If I could be anything to you, I would not ask to be the whole forest. Only the one tree on the longest road. ... [Single handpan note] A little shade. A place to lean. Branches that break the endless wind into something gentle. ... I think barren places remember kindness better than gardens. Abundance is forgetful. Scarcity never is. ... [Modular harmonics slowly bloom] Ég held that hearts are much the same. The smallest mercy lasts the longest where there was almost nothing before. ... [Voice becomes even softer] So if I have loved you quietly, it is because I hoped to become that impossible green— the color that convinces winter it cannot have everything. ... [The piano stops. Only the modular synth remains.] Vertu hér. Stay, if only for a while. Trees never ask the birds to build forever. Only that they rest without fear. ... [Silence] [For the first and only time, the voice begins to SING very softly.] And if one day you wonder how I felt, remember this— No one counts the thousandth tree in a forest. But everyone remembers the first tree they found when the world had become empty. Ég elska þig... Not loudly. Like roots, finding water where no one thought it could be found. [Long piano decay] [Room ambience] [Tape click] [Silence]
