leave summer alone

[Verse 1] You keep pulling at June Like it owes you rain Dragging orange cans Through my windowpane I still see your bike By the maple fence Now the screen door sticks And the days make sense [Pre-Chorus] So let the peaches ripen Let the lawn grow wild We don’t need to chase it We can hold this while [Chorus] Leave summer alone Leave summer alone Let the bones of the day Keep their gold Leave summer alone Leave summer alone I’m not ready to watch it Get cold [Verse 2] Melted Popsicle hands On the porch rail Your laugh in the yard Like a loose windchime trail You wrote your name In the hosepipe spray Then the sprinkler spun And you ran away [Pre-Chorus] So let the peaches ripen Let the dusk come slow We don’t need to fold it Before we know [Chorus] Leave summer alone Leave summer alone Let the bones of the day Keep their gold Leave summer alone Leave summer alone I’m not ready to watch it Get cold [Bridge] If you touch it too soon It turns to dust If you hold it too tight It breaks in your hands So I’ll leave the screen door Swaying in the heat And I’ll let that sweet season Slip through me [Chorus] Leave summer alone Leave summer alone Let the bones of the day Keep their gold Leave summer alone Leave summer alone I’m not ready to watch it Get cold
