Written Before The Dawn

My life began in quiet No spotlight, no applause Just a sacred whispered moment Between my folks and God An unseen little embryo So small no eye could see But Heaven marked the starting line Of who I’d grow to be From heartbeat into fingers From fragile into strong Every breath already numbered Before I sang my song Not chance and not by accident Not fortune, fate, or whim The Author of all living things Was crafting me within Oh every life has a beginning And every soul a plan Held inside the sovereign will Of the great I Am From first breath to the final one His mercy carries on We are written by His mighty hand Long before the dawn As I moved through days of childhood Through broken bones and grace Through valleys deep and mountain highs I saw His saving face Teenage dreams and young man’s pride The lessons time has shown Through every season of my life His faithfulness was known But while my story’s moving From cradle toward gray hair There are silent little heartbeats That never fill the air Some lives end in hidden rooms Before they see the light Called from womb to Heaven’s arms Before their first sunrise “Lord… For the babies who never felt the wind on their face… For the parents who carry quiet tears… You are still the Giver of life. And You are still good.” Though their days were never counted In calendars we keep I believe You held them fully Not one soul incomplete No life is ever wasted No spark escapes Your sight The same God who walks me forward Carries them in light Oh every life has a beginning And every soul a name Known before the earth was formed And loved just the same Some will walk through many years Some barely start at all But every single beating heart Is cradled when You call Now I’m walking toward my twilight With silver in my hair Feeling both the weight of time And mercy everywhere From embryo to aging man From first cry to last breath You are Lord of every entrance And even Lord of death “They mattered. Every one of them mattered. Because You formed them.” Oh every life has a beginning And every soul returns To the hands that shaped its being To the fire that always burns Whether years were long and winding Or ended far too soon All glory to the God of Life Who fills both earth and womb My story started hidden But Heaven saw my face And when my final chapter closes I’ll still be saved by grace
