[Verse] Down in Memphis Tennessee there’s a girl named Mary Jo, who’s waiting for the war to end so her daddy can come home. Now even though she’s a little young to understand what for. Every night about eight o clock she goes running for that door. And she’ll stop and stare as she cries. [Chorus] Daddy come home I don’t want to wait another day. Why are you in this thing called war and fighting any way. Daddy come home cause I don’t want to go another night. Oh I miss the way you tuck me in a gentle kiss and then the light, Daddy come home. [Verse] Now Mary lives with her Mama and she has struggles too. So overwhelmed with work these days she doesn’t know what to do. But she will still comfort Mary, in any way she can, wiping the tears from her little girl’s eyes, while she thinks about her man. And then She’ll listen as Mary cries. [Chorus] Daddy come home I don’t want to wait another day. Why are you in this thing called war and fighting any way. Daddy come home cause I don’t want to go another night. Oh I miss the way you tuck me in a gentle kiss and then the light, Daddy come home. [Bridge] Dear Dad I know you’re missing us, as much as we miss you, so please tell me what’s a little girl and a Mom supposed to do. It’s Birthday time and you’re not here to help us celebrate, but I’m still your little girl Daddy and me and Mom you know will wait for you to come home , please come home. [Chorus] Daddy come home I don’t want to wait another day. Why are you in this thing called war and fighting any way. Daddy come home cause I don’t want to go another night. Oh I miss the way you tuck me in, a gentle kiss and then the light, Daddy come home, come home. Oh Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy come home, come home , Oh Daddy your home.
