Abiding amid the Dark Night (Immanuel)

Beneath the cold and barren sky, A season comes where spirits sigh, Yet in this night, so deep, so long, God weaves a hidden, quiet song. This darkened path with pain, Strips the soul of worldly gain. Attachments fall, like leaves in frost, Till only grace sustains what's lost. No warmth of feelings, no sign of near, Yet faith persists, dispelling fear. For in the shadows, God refines, A deeper love, a Light that shines. “O night,” St. John begins to sing, “Beloved meets the soul, takes wing! Through empty hands, and silent breath, Love transforms the soul through death.” The frost purifies, the silence clears, A space for trust, beyond our fears. For winter’s chill is not despair, But God’s embrace, so rich, so rare. So tread this season, not in dread, But with a hope that lies ahead. In barren fields, new seeds are sown, And hearts abide in God alone. O sacred winter, pathway bright, Through shadowed vale, into the Light. We hear your call so pure Abide in God, His love secure!
