What you gon’ do? He crossed for me. Will I cross for you? See one down? Pull one up. Love gets real when it costs you something. He crossed the road for me. Who am I crossing for? Back then, dirt road. Blood on stone. Man beat half-dead, left there alone. First man saw him. Kept walking. Second man saw him. Kept walking. They didn’t miss him. That’s important. They saw him. They kept going. Then came the man nobody would’ve picked. Wrong people. Wrong side. Wrong history. He didn’t ask if the man deserved it. Got down in the dirt. Touched the blood. Used what he had. Put the man on his ride. Stayed the night. Paid the bill. No stage. No applause. No post about it. Just mercy. Don’t scroll. Don’t scroll. You saw that pain. What you gon’ do? He crossed for me. Will I cross for you? See one down? Pull one up. Love gets real when it costs you something. He crossed the road for me. Who am I crossing for? Now the road looks different. Red light. Window up. Eyes straight ahead. The text I read twice and still don’t call back. The dude at work who got real quiet lately. The kid they pick on every day learned to laugh before they do. Everybody thinks he’s funny. Nobody asks if he’s okay. Mom says she’s not hungry, makes sure everybody eats. Then I catch her in the kitchen counting what we have till Friday. Friend says, “I’m good” at one in the morning. Something in his voice says he ain’t. And sometimes I know. That’s what gets me. Sometimes I know. I just don’t wanna stop long enough for their pain to ask something of me. I used to hear this story and make myself the victim. I’m the one bleeding. Jesus came to get me. And yeah, sometimes I am. But sometimes I’m the footsteps leaving the scene. Sometimes I’m busy. Sometimes I’m tired. Sometimes I got enough and still hold tight. Sometimes “I’ll pray for you” means exactly that. Sometimes it means, “Please don’t ask me to do anything.” Bible in my phone. Verse in my bio. Worship in my headphones. Still drove right by, though. I saw it, I knew it, I felt that pull, had time for the feed but my calendar full. Had ten for a coffee, said five was too much, talked about faith but avoided the touch. Quick with a scripture, slow with a ride, said God would help them, then stayed inside. Friend hit my phone, something didn’t feel right, saw that message and left it all night. Kid ate alone, I was laughing with mine, man at the light, I stared straight at the sign. I know how to worship, I know how to quote, know every word while somebody needs hope. But love ain’t a lyric. Mercy ain’t talk. Faith gets legs when I get up and walk. If Jesus crossed heaven to come where I am, how I see somebody hurting and act like I can’t? This world says Look down. Keep moving. Mind your business. Protect your time. Protect your money. Protect yourself. Jesus says Look up. Come closer. See them. Because He saw me when I needed rescue. He came close when I couldn’t carry myself. He saw. He came. He touched. He stayed. He lifted. He carried. He covered. He paid. That’s mercy. And if I say I wanna look like Jesus, I gotta learn to see like Jesus. He didn’t love me from a safe distance. He came here. Touched people everybody backed away from. Sat with people everybody talked about. Stopped for people the crowd walked past. And when my debt came due, He paid it. So no, I can’t fix homelessness. But I can buy a meal. I can’t heal every broken heart. But I can make the call. I can’t carry every burden. But I can carry one. “I can’t help everybody” sounds different when I realize I can help somebody. Don’t scroll. Don’t scroll. You saw that pain. What you gon’ do? He crossed for me. Will I cross for you? See one down? Pull one up. Love gets real when it costs you something. He crossed the road for me. Who am I crossing for? The world says, “Look down.” Jesus says, “Look up.” Different road. Same choice. Somebody’s hurting. Will I stop? He saw me. Now I see you. He came close. Now I move. The one who showed mercy. Go and do likewise. So go.
