Are We Like This? (Remix)

A choir of voices, loud and blind, Cruelty is easy, it spreads through the mind. And I ask myself, soft and low: Are we like this? Are we really like this? There once was a bard, his name was John, A man with visions bright — but now he’s gone. His words of peace came far too late, And tears were shed when we heard of his fate. He still believed. Are we like this? Are we really like this? Men wrote great books for the “true man,” Promising something good, a place to stand. But palaces built on sins of the past, Are not the kind of faith that lasts. Religion as a reason for war — Is that really what God stands for? Tell me: Are we like this? Or do we want to be like this? We wage our wars and shout for more, Your land looks rich — I’ll take it for sure. There’s oil and coal and gold to claim, And I’ll take it all, no one to blame. We are like this. Yes, we are like this. Nothing learned from history so far, love and peace still torn apart. The world burns on, yet we don’t see the scar. Are we just distracted? Blind to the flame? If we had noticed sooner — we’d hold the cure in our hands. Ignoring all the warnings, defying all demands. You hold it now. Right in your hands. Are we like this? Are we really like this?
