Have you ever wondered… Why one baby’s born into hunger… And the next into silk and gold? One child cries in a one-room shack Another in a mansion tall One learns to fight just to make it through One never fights at all Why’s one field dry and cracked with thirst While another overflows? Why does one heart break from want While another never knows? Let me ask you something… Why were we born human at all? Why not a lamb in a quiet pasture… Or a dog chasing wind across a yard? Who chose this breath in our lungs? Who signed our names to this skin? I’ve asked those questions more times than I can count. We’re given gifts we never earned A sunrise every day Grace enough to fill the sky Still somehow we complain Simple needs laid at our feet Water, bread, and air But we want more than daily bread We want a bigger share More money, more power More minutes on the clock When love was always more than enough Before we learned to want I’ve walked through tent encampments… You know the places. Where broken shopping carts become closets And tarps become walls. Where humanity meets… humanity. Have you ever really looked at them? I mean really looked? What do you see? Some see dirt and tattered clothes And turn their heads away Some see failure in their eyes And judgment on display But I have seen a trembling hand Reach up just to pray I’ve seen a soul still shining bright Though life has worn away Most didn’t wake up one fine morn And choose a shattered street Something cracked beneath their feet And knocked them from their seat It isn’t always needles. It isn’t always drink. Sometimes it’s trauma. Sometimes it’s the mind itself turning against its own heart. Sometimes it’s a single moment… That changed everything. And most of the time… We’ll never know. So when you pass that tired face Beside a dumpster’s side Remember grace has carried you On a different tide Our paths were drawn before our steps By hands we cannot see And that lost soul upon the curb Could share your family tree A brother, sister, aunt or friend Or simply just the same A child of God with battered wings Still worthy of His name So why do we complain When heaven’s poured so much? Why can’t we take what we’ve been given And stretch it far enough To feed a hundred hurting hearts? Compassion over conviction… That’s the choice I make. Thank You, Lord, for breath and bone For mercy undeserved For roads that led me safely home Though others twist and curve Open up these blinded eyes Let me truly see That every soul You placed on earth Is tied somehow to me Simple pleasures, sacred gifts Let me hold them tight And trade my judgment for Your love Every chance in sight The next time you see someone the world forgot… Thank God for where you stand. And if you can… Reach down your hand.
