Dig In

V6

This is a musical theater romp following a kid fresh off the boat in ESL (English as Second Language) class, taking every English idiom literally. This is also a sarcastic, affectionate love letter to everyone who has ever nodded along and faked it till they made it. 🎭📚 這首音樂劇風格的搞笑饒舌,在講一個剛到美國的小朋友,在 ESL 課堂上把每一句英文慣用語都當成字面意思來理解。 😎 LYRICS “I moved to America when I was little. English was hard. Really hard. My teacher said things like ‘dig in’ and I brought a shovel to lunch.” “Hit the books” — I punched the textbook, bruised my fist. “Break a leg” — brought crutches to the quiz. “Bite the bullet” — chewed it, metal taste. “Piece of cake” — sounded simple, almost made me QUIT! “Costs an arm and a leg” — offered my arm, she said no. “Kill two birds with one stone” — brought a slingshot, let it go. “Couch potato on the gym form” — drew one on a couch, got detention. Crossed an ocean chasing words… what a linguistic myth. Trying to learn a second language… this is what I got stuck with. English was a special kind of hell but I fake it till I make it, and I’m doing swell. “Spill the beans in science” — dumped my lunch, beans everywhere. “Let the cat out of the bag” — a real cat, teacher in despair. “Beat around the bush” — walked in circles till the bell. “Jump the gun” — leapt so high, landed in a well. “Go cold turkey on a field trip” — stood in snow in shorts. “Hit the nail on the head” — swung the hammer, missed, hit my thumb. “Kick the bucket in the hallway” — checked every pail for a corpse. Crossed an ocean chasing words… what a linguistic myth. Trying to learn a second language… this is what I got stuck with. English was a special kind of hell but I fake it till I make it, and I’m doing swell. “Burn the midnight oil” — set a lamp on fire, principal called home. “Cry over spilled milk” — wept for the carton, all alone. “Under the weather”— it was raining, so I sat in. “Throw in the towel” — tossed it in the bin. “The elephant in the room” — just the janitor’s twin. “When pigs fly” — looked up, saw a plane, gave in. Crossed an ocean chasing words… what a linguistic myth. Trying to learn a second language… this is what I got stuck with. English was a special kind of hell but I fake it till I make it, and I’m doing swell. Still standing after all that, barely. English is a trap with a welcome mat, apparently. One day “hit the road” and I’ll actually drive till then, I'll just nod and somehow survive. © 2026 @Uracil Do not copy or repost without permission.
