Now I Know Better

[Verse 1] My ex-boyfriend once told me That, just a couple of months into our relationship He went to the police to ask If he could install a camera in my own home to watch me There was no issue in our relationship at that time And the answer from the police was no [Verse 2] What he told me was deeply disturbing And I should’ve asked him why he tried To monitor me in my own space But I didn’t Maybe because I was too confused and shocked to process it [Chorus] Now, as I process it, it just makes me so angry I’m angry that not only was he twisted enough To try to control me through surveillance But also that he was too fucking stupid To understand how wrong and illegal that was [Bridge] And even if he had doubts or issues It was still my space I paid the rent I invited him in And he didn’t just think about violating that He acted on it He went to the police That wasn’t a joke That wasn’t a fleeting thought That was a breach waiting to happen [Verse 3] Looking back, I overlooked too many red flags Maybe because I tried to love someone Who didn’t deserve that level of grace [Outro] But now I know better Now I know the importance of boundaries And I would never settle For that kind of nonsense again
