[Verse 1] I picked a random road Out by the county line Found a pocket of matches In a coat I don't wear There was dust on the label And a bend in the tin I laughed for no reason Then I lit one and grinned [Pre-Chorus] One little spark And the whole day changed Funny how a small thing Can rearrange [Chorus] Pocket of matches, pocket of matches You never know when the dark comes back Pocket of matches, pocket of matches One little flame can bring me back (Back, back, back) [Verse 2] I kept it in my bag Like a stubborn old song On a bus to nowhere With the window down long Met a man at the station Selling peaches in rain He said, "Son, keep your heart close And your good luck safe" [Pre-Chorus] One little spark And the whole day changed Funny how a small thing Can rearrange [Chorus] Pocket of matches, pocket of matches You never know when the dark comes back Pocket of matches, pocket of matches One little flame can bring me back (Back, back, back) [Bridge] I don't need a fortune I don't need a sign Just one tiny ember When the world won't shine [Final Chorus] Pocket of matches, pocket of matches You never know when the dark comes back Pocket of matches, pocket of matches One little flame can bring me back Pocket of matches, pocket of matches Hold that spark and you won't go black (Pocket of matches)
