[Intro] [Verse 1] Saturday morning, quarter to ten Here we go with the boys again Old black boots and a muddy field I tell the lads, “Just watch my heels!” Ball comes rolling straight to me Open goal as wide as can be I swing my boot with all my might— And send that poor thing out of sight! [Pre-Chorus] Too high! (Too high!) Too wide! (Too wide!) Everybody laughing On the other side! [Chorus] I nearly scored again! (Nearly scored!) I nearly scored again! (Nearly scored!) Over the bar— But here I am! I nearly scored again! (Oh, yeah!) Just you wait, my friend One of these days that ball goes in— I nearly scored again! [Post-Chorus] Nearly! (Nearly!) Nearly! (Nearly!) Hey! [Verse 2] Second half and we're two-one down Mud on my shirt, but I own this ground Billy shouts, “Just pass the ball!” I shout, “Don't worry—I know it all!” Another chance comes straight my way This is gonna be my lucky day I kick so hard I lose my shoe— Ball goes left and my boot goes too! [Pre-Chorus] Wrong way! (Wrong way!) Oh, no! (Oh, no!) Everybody shouting, “Where'd your boot go?” [Chorus] I nearly scored again! (Nearly scored!) I nearly scored again! (Nearly scored!) Over the bar— But here I am! I nearly scored again! (Oh, yeah!) Just you wait, my friend One of these days that ball goes in— I nearly scored again! [Instrumental Break] Hey! Go, guitar, go! [Short Twangy Guitar Solo + Handclaps] [Bridge] Last few seconds One goal down One more corner Crowd gathers round Ball comes flying Someone slips Hits my knee— And THERE IT IS! [Breakdown] GOAL! (You scored!) Who, me? (You scored!) I meant to do that! [Handclaps] Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! [Final Chorus] I nearly scored again! (Nearly scored!) But this one finally went in! Off my knee— What a way to win! I nearly scored again! (Oh, yeah!) Now tell every friend I knew I'd get that goal someday— I nearly scored again! [Double Chorus] Nearly scored! (Hey!) Nearly scored! (Hey!) Nearly scored again! Nearly scored! (Hey!) Nearly scored! (Hey!) I nearly scored again! [Outro] How'd you do it? ... I MEANT TO DO THAT! (Yeah, right!) HEY! [Final Guitar Chord + Group Laughter]
