[verse 1] I want to understand my man That's why I'm practicing this flam [flam practice] Drumming quietly Cracking an egg As I play, I hear a woodpecker Tapping on the oak tree outside My sense of rhythm is out wide [chorus] I'm like a woodpecker Tapping on a tree Practicing my drumming It's just the drums The woodpecker And me [verse 2] I want to drum Just like Anthony I'm practicing flams Paradiddles and fills Anthony's drumming Gives me chills I've got to practice Over and over That's what Anthony said I need to drum quietly As if I was cracking open A boiled egg [chorus] I'm like a woodpecker Tapping on a tree Practicing my drumming It's just the drums The woodpecker And me [verse 3] Anthony has a moustache I don't know if it will last He's a soldier in the army He thinks I'm barmy When he's drumming His tongue goes backwards Towards the back of his throat He's really good at drumming Whatever he says, I make a note [chorus] I'm like a woodpecker Tapping on a tree Practicing my drumming It's just the drums The woodpecker And me [outro] I've got to practice Over and over That's what Anthony said. I need to drum quietly As if I was cracking open A boiled egg [drum break fading to woodblock]
