The Dark That Evil Fears (∞ cover)

[Intro] I watched the dust settle on the walls of Ur Before the cross was raised, before the world was pure... The desert wind whispered secrets in my ear Of a life without an end, and a heart without fear. [Distant swelling feedback, heavy slow snare roll] [Verse 1] I studied under magi in the shadow of the moon Learned the cantos and the carvings in a granite tomb! I’ve walked the Silk Road when the stars were the only guide With a hunger in my veins that I could never hide. [Guitars swell with chorus effect] I’ve seen the empires rise and I’ve watched the idols fall I’m the ghost in the machine, the writing on the wall! [Pre-Chorus] [Layered whisper-screams] I don’t want your silver, I don’t want your gold I’m the keeper of the secrets that were never told! [Chorus] I am the shield in the dead of the night! A creature of the shadow, a servant of the light! From the dawn of time to the end of the years I am the dark that evil fears! [Post-Chorus] [Verse 2] When the wolves are at the door and the innocent cry I’m the black-winged shadow falling from the sky! I’ve got a bloodline curse but a sanctified soul Keeping every demon under my control. [Vocals shift into passionate belted tone] I’m the hunter! I’m the healer! I’m the righteous hand Protecting every brother in this weary land! [Bridge] I WAS OLD WHEN THE GALILEE WAS YOUNG! I’VE SUNG EVERY SONG THAT’S EVER BEEN SUNG! [High soaring raw scream] [Chorus] I am the shield in the dead of the night! A creature of the shadow, a servant of the light! From the dawn of time to the end of the years I am the dark that evil fears! [Outro] [Breathy whisper vocals] Yeah, I’m the ancient fire... I’m the holy pyre... I am the dark... The dark that evil fears... [All heavy instruments drop out instantly, return to solitary acoustic guitar ring-out] Even Stars Need Darkness To Shine... [Whispered vocals] I am the dark... The dark that evil fears... [Raw vocal echo] Even Stars Need Darkness To Shine... [Acoustic guitar rings out, abrupt silence]
