Paper Lanterns in the Rust (TOP) v11

[Intro] The highway bleeds into the pine tree line We left our footprints in the winter wine [Verse 1] You said the static on the radio Was just the ghosts of everywhere we used to go Old photographs are fading on the dash We burnt our summers to a golden ash And I’ve been counting every mile we crossed Looking for the treasure in the things we lost [Chorus] Oh, let the river take the heavy load We’re just two wanderers upon a broken road With paper lanterns burning in the rust We built a kingdom out of empty dust Oh-oh, let it go Let the wind blow through our bones [Verse 2] The coffee's bitter and the morning’s cold We’re buying stories that we’ve already told You fix your collar against the autumn bite We chase the shadows till they turn to light There is a quiet in the way you breathe Like falling leaves that have no place to leave And I’d forgive you for the things unsaid If you would meet me where the riverbed [Chorus] Oh, let the river take the heavy load We’re just two wanderers upon a broken road With paper lanterns burning in the rust We built a kingdom out of empty dust Oh-oh, let it go Let the wind blow through our bones [Bridge] And if the morning never comes around If we are lost beneath this sacred ground I wouldn't trade a single broken string For all the songs the empty heavens sing No, I wouldn't trade a single tear we cried For all the stars across the countryside [Chorus] Oh, let the river take the heavy load We’re just two wanderers upon a broken road With paper lanterns burning in the rust We built a kingdom out of empty dust Oh-oh, let it go Let the wind blow through our bones [Outro] Just paper lanterns... Burning in the rust. We left our ghosts in the autumn dust.
