Now my jacket's on the bedroom floor, and I don't have to be anywhere anymore. No office screens that need repair, no pointless meetings, no practiced stare. Just the coffee machine, the window, me, and half-awake New York beneath my feet. [Chorus] I stand here thinking, coffee in my hand, watching everybody move like they understand. One thought finds another, another falls in line, round and round they go while I lose track of time. Twenty years forward, a thousand years back, people I should call, things I never ask. The whole damn city moves outside my door. I take another sip and think some more. [Verse 2] Campaign faces flicker down the street, every wall has someone I should believe. Human on the left, AI on the right, both selling better days in borrowed light. I'd hack those screens and paint them all, flowers through slogans, whales ten stories tall. But some ideas are too big, even for me. So I watch their promises loop endlessly. [Verse 3] When did I last call Mom just to say hi? When did I see Dad without a reason why? I keep saying soon like soon won't disappear, then somehow another month becomes a year. What will this city look like twenty years from now? What did people do before we wired everything somehow? No networks, no screens, no code beneath their hands. Would I have made it there? I think I probably can. [Verse 4] Then I think of Saskia and that rooftop crash, smoking hoverboard and rain on broken glass. Did she get the flowers? Is she doing alright? Will she climb on another damn board tomorrow night? Then Pixel's program catches my eye, I could shut it down, let the whole thing die. But I remember Midir with that wolf beside his chair. Something close to trust was happening there. [Bridge] My coffee's cold. I've solved nothing. The future still comes. The past stays gone. Those faces still flicker. The city still runs. But there's one damn thing I can actually get done. [Verse 5] I call my mother, hear the ringing tone. "Hey, I just thought I'd let you know. Nothing happened. Yeah, I'm doing fine. Just realized it's been a little too much time." Then Dad gets a message: "I'll come by tonight. Get something to drink." He replies, "Alright." For the first time all morning my head goes quiet. I look at the cold cup and finally smile. [Final Chorus] I stood there thinking, coffee in my hand, watching everybody move like they understand. One thought found another, another fell in line, round and round they went while I lost track of time. Twenty years forward, a thousand years back, still don't have the answers and I'm fine with that. The whole damn city moves outside my door. I put the coffee down. Don't need it anymore. [Outro] Boot the program. Blue light on the floor. Four paws. Two ears. Tail loads once more. I grab my jacket. Pixel looks my way. "Come on, boy. Let's go for a walk."
