The first time I met her, she was behind bars, Cowering in the corner, too shy to get in the car, Her spirit started lifting as I drove her on home, Her only tether would be love and she'd have room to roam, I was deep down in an emotional bog, But then I found my soulmate, and I found it in a dog, She chewed up my drumsticks, tore my couch to shreds, Her penalty for that was getting to sleep on the bed, There by my side, in a loving embrace, Helped me make sense of life and it's silly rat race, Nothing I could do would help to lift the fog, Until I found my soulmate, and I found it in a dog, Been a whole lotta years and countless roadtrips, She's been there through heartache and loss without throwing a fit, She's helped me through depression and you know that ain't all, And all she asks in return is that I make time to throw her ball, Riding shotgun down the road or just being a bump on a log, That's how I know I found my soulmate and I found it in a dog, I know some day I'll lose her when she crosses that rainbow bridge, So I'll cherish each day and count my blessings til then, They say all dogs go to heaven, and I know that must be true, So I know I'll see her, when I get called to cross that sky of blue, If you're looking for someone to get up with you with the morning sun, Or someone to keep you company when the day's work is done, And if you're looking for someone to keep you company out on your evening jog, Go to the shelter and find your soulmate, That's where I found mine, and I found it in a dog.
