I watched ‘em sit when safety was spoken Arms crossed tight, no hands were open When law and order filled the air Half the room just stayed right there Not for the man — but for the call To guard the weak, to protect us all I thought we stood when danger’s near Not just when it fits election year Stand for the flag, not just your side Stand for the truth, not wounded pride You can disagree, that’s your right But don’t dim America’s light Protect our home, defend the law That’s what this republic’s for If we lose that common ground What are we fightin’ for now? Then thunder rolled on foreign sand Threats were drawn against this land The same strong voice that called for peace Took steps to make the danger cease And those who would not stand before Now shout the loudest evermore Not questionin’ plans — but questionin’ strength As if restraint should run at length I’m not sayin’ one man’s always right Or power never clouds the sight But when America draws the line Shouldn’t we stand at least one time? Here’s the question I keep askin’… If you wouldn’t stand When we talked about protectin’ our own streets… And you won’t stand When we move to stop a fire overseas… Then what are you standin’ for? Loyalty ain’t blind agreement. And dissent ain’t always wrong. But there’s a difference between Holding leaders accountable… And hopin’ they fail So your side wins the song. Support the office. Defend the Constitution. Back the rule of law. No matter who sits behind that desk — Republican or Democrat — When American lives are on the line, We stand behind our flag. Stand for the flag, not just your side Stand for the law that guards our lives Argue policy, debate the plan But don’t weaken your own homeland Protect our home so we can lead A restless world in desperate need If we put country over crown We won’t let America down It ain’t about the man alone It’s about the oath he’s sworn And if we can’t unite on that What’s this union for?
