[ Note: first three lines inspired by: the song Raise the Sun ( youtu.be/Ax_XsN_Voos ) by Sails & Songs ( youtube.com/@Sails_and_Songs ) ] oh the times were gray and the debts were high but we stayed afloat as the storm rolled by... hey-ho it's the end of a backbreaking year much discontentment and not much cheer till here it's a year that has been too austere but now it's Christmas Eve way up in the sky there's an elderly man bringing his gifts all across the land and now he is here and the hour is at hand tonight on Christmas Eve hey-ho, hey-ho, and a ho ho ho hitch up the sleigh and away we go you'll light up your nose with a bright scarlet glow we fly on Christmas Eve well he's got a list that's been checked once or twice coal for the naughty or gifts if nice he laughs at the wind and the snow and the ice no rest on Christmas Eve came down through the chimney and under the tree something for you and some more for me so let's shake the box, wonder what it could be on this bright Christmas morning hey-ho, hey-ho, and a ho ho ho mistletoe, underneath we will go it's time for a kiss, and the kiss will be slow God bless this Christmas morning
