[Verse 1] Muhammad climbed the mountain high, Beneath the quiet, starry sky. In silence of the cave he sat, Contemplating this and that— Where life begins, where life must end, Seeking answers for an age old quest. [Chorus] (Dramatic drums build) Then through the dark, Gabriel came down, With words to shake the heavy ground! [Thunderous Voice] “READ!” The Trustworthy One, in fear and dread, Trembled low and softly said: “I cannot read, I cannot read…” [Thunderous Voice] “READ!” Again the Chosen One replied, With trembling heart and humbled pride: “I cannot read, I cannot read…” [Verse 2] [Sacred, rhythmic recitation style] Then Holy Spirit spoke the line, The sacred verse, the word divine: “Read in the name of your Lord who created! Created mankind from a clinging clot! Read! For your Lord is the Most Generous, Who taught by the pen, Taught man what he knew not!” [Bridge] [Melodic, soothing dynamic shift] Down from the mountain, through the night, Seeking shelter, seeking light. To Khadijah’s warm embrace, She calmed his fears and wiped his face. She believed his holy call, Stood beside him through it all. [Outro] [Soft instrumental pads, heavenly light] Verse by verse, the heavens spoke, In glowing light, the truth awoke.
