[Verse 1] I got a paper cup fortune From a man by the pier He said, "Shake it, don't break it" Then he smiled ear to ear It said, "Take the long way home" So I took the back road Past the fruit stand, past the bikes Where the wet wind blows [Pre-Chorus] And I laughed out loud At the little green slip But my chest went light When it fit like this [Chorus] Paper cup fortune Say it again Paper cup fortune Bring me back in I was half asleep Now I'm wide awake Paper cup fortune What a strange little day [Verse 2] I found a red fish keychain Stuck under my seat And a dog in a sweater Kept pacing with me A kid sold me two peaches For a bent-up dime Then the clouds split open Just in time [Pre-Chorus] And I laughed out loud At the little green slip But my chest went light When it fit like this [Chorus] Paper cup fortune Say it again Paper cup fortune Bring me back in I was half asleep Now I'm wide awake Paper cup fortune What a strange little day [Bridge] Maybe that's all it is A nudge, not a map A tiny hand on my shoulder Saying, "Don't look back" So I keep it in my pocket Like a coin from a dream And every time I need it I hear that paper seam [Final Chorus] Paper cup fortune Say it again Paper cup fortune Bring me back in I was half asleep Now I'm wide awake Paper cup fortune What a strange little day
