Arise Shine

As the sun arose and stretched across the field that laid just beyond our door a rooster would sing his old familiar tune as my feet would step across the floor and with his hands of leather, waiting at the table my dad sat patiently as he looked up from his coffee cup he began to speak Arise. Shine for your light has come it’s a brand new tomorrow and there’s work to be done time can’t be wasted there is only so much sun arise shine for your light has come Back then i never understood why he worked so damn hard for the little we had at the time between the bills and the bankers and harvest not yielding it seem to take a toll on his mind but my dreams they were bigger than the fields be labored and the house where i was raised And when i said goodbye to him these words led me on my way Arise. Shine for your light has come it’s a brand new tomorrow and there’s work to be done time can’t be wasted there is only so much son arise shine for your light has come As the harvests got smaller, the land it was sold and city crept ever close Still he put those hands to labor everyday he could until the moon arose but this morning at sunrise the fields were left empty and they found him there in his bed the bible on the nightstand was open to a verse, and this is what it read Arise. Shine for your light has come it’s a brand new tomorrow and the work is all done time can’t be wasted there is only so much son arise shine for your light has come
