Letter to MI5 - Director of Environments

[Verse 1] I walked in, hands still shaking MI5 on the door Director of Environments Reading me hopefully by the floor Told with a letter Setting out my case Paper sharp as winter In a sealed-up place [Pre-Chorus] I kept my eyes on the line Kept my name in frame Every word was a matchstick Every pause a flame [Chorus] MI5 Director of Environments Cold letter in my hand MI5 Director of Environments Said I’d understand Attempted murder in the cold Attempted murder in the cold I was standing there alone With the ice around my soul [Verse 2] The room had no mercy Only glass and chrome My voice hit the corners Then it came back home I said what I said I meant what I wrote The Guard watched me like a verdict With the seal and send the note [Pre-Chorus] And the air got thinner As the truth moved in One bad step, one red mark One place to begin [Chorus] MI5 Director of Environments Cold letter in my hand MI5 Director of Environments Said I’d understand Attempted murder in the cold Attempted murder in the cold I was standing there alone With the ice around my soul [Bridge] No sirens, no shouting Just that paper sound My pulse in my throat And the world spun around One line, then another Like a knife in white Then the door fell quiet And I lost the fight [Final Chorus] MI5 Director of Environments Cold letter in my hand MI5 Director of Environments Said I’d understand Attempted murder in the cold Attempted murder in the cold I was standing there alone With the ice around my soul
